About Me - Testimonials

About Me

I was born and raised in Potomac, Maryland.  I graduated from Stone Ridge in Bethesda, Maryland and have served as a past President of their Alumnae Board.   I also attended Montgomery College and have taken many business-related courses over the years.

My family has been in the real estate and mortgage banking business since before I was born.  My father, George DeFranceaux (1913-1997 http://qr.net/ce1j) was well-known and respected in the Washington, DC area.  He was a past President of the Washington Board of Realtors, among other honors, and was appointed by President Johnson to be the first Chairman of the National Corporation for Housing Partnerships (now known as NHP), which provided private funding for low and middle income housing.  My uncle, George Moss, was the developer of the Springbrook area of Silver Spring, MD, and my brother Don is also in the field.

After raising four children to school-age, I began a successful 25+ year career in the satellite communications field.  For 19 of those years I was EVP/GM of a million dollar+ multimedia/TV production company, while also providing satellite communications consulting.  My husband Jack and I came to Kauai in early 2005 to take over the local gymnastics school:  Kauai Gymnastics Academy (www.kauaigymnastics.com), so I am very versed in what it takes to relocate here and run a successful island business.

I believe that home ownership is not only a good, long-term investment, but is also one of the most basic joys and privileges of life (after motherhood!).  I bought my first home when I was 19 and sold it four years later (1970) for a 20% profit (not that profit was my motive).  I also believe that this is an opportune time to invest in Kauai.  The prices are the lowest in decades and the interest rates are at rock bottom.

My personal strengths are:

  • Ability to understand the big picture while still taking care of the details
  • Proven success as a Home Stager
  • Ability to help her clients see the potential of a property
  • Home renovation experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent technical skills

I have four grown children and eight grandchildren. One daughter and two grandchildren live on Kauai.

I am a "rainbow" person who can always see past the clouds to find a solution and I've been told that my positive energy is contagious.  I look forward to helping you find your piece of Paradise or to help you to move on to your next rainbow!

Testimonials

"While Kay possesses all of the qualities one looks for in a great realtor, she particularly excels at dealing with an off-island buyer like myself.  Kay worked very hard to keep me informed of properties of interest and of the Kauai-market in general while I traveled abroad.    Armed with her smart-phone, Kay was always accessible, responded immediately when queried and dealt almost exclusively with digital documents.  A smart realtor with a smart-phone - a smart choice for any off-island buyer!!!"
